Letter from the Board
August 25, 2019
Hello {Contact_First_Name} {Contact_Last_Name}!
We are back for the fall
with a full schedule of events.
Our Law and Ethics training was extremely successful. We
instituted a new format and had close to 90 therapists attend and receive this
very important training. Thanks you to
all that attended and for your valuable feedback.
Our diversity committee has sponsored Meet Up events for
both Mental Health Professionals of Color and LGBTQ Mental Health
Professionals. They have been well attended and are growing in numbers. These
are free events for the mental health community. Please consider attending one
of the meetings. Information is posted on our site.
Elections are just around the corner. Please consider
running for an office or volunteering for our board. We are always looking for
new therapists to join us. It is a
rewarding experience. If you are interested contact Linita at presidentelect@svccamft.org.

Workshop Information:
Opiate use disorder is common, with significant clinical consequences (~70k overdose deaths/year in the US). Therapy is a critical part of a compressive, effective treatment program. Medications have been shown to have important clinical benefit, but are often overlooked parts of a treatment plan. This workshop will discuss the goals of treatment, as well as the role medications play in treatment. We will discuss risks and benefits of various medication approaches, as well as what the therapist can expect to see as a result of these medications. Lastly, the role of effective therapy (and how this can be structured) in the overall treatment of opiate use disorder will be reviewed and discussed.
1. Able to Name 3 medications used in the treatment of opiate use disorder
2. Identify and explain the cycle of chemical coping
3. Describe opiate use disorder in the context of a chronic relapsing remitting disease
