Letter from SVC-CAMFT
May 1, 2020 Greetings from SVC-CAMFT, Those of us in the Sacramento Valley remain under a shelter-in-place order until May 22, 2020 (the earliest date set by our Governor). Our current global climate has caused most of us to transition to telehealth services and find creative ways to remain engaged, connected and informed. SVC-CAMFT, is committed to supporting our therapeutic community. We may be unable to meet in the same room, however, we remain connected through our Community Huddles, MeetUps and monthly workshops. Please continue to take the time to reach out, and utilize the resources available. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In celebration of the work we do and to help reduce the stigma of mental health disorders. SVC-CAMFT is a registered participant in the 2020 Virtual Walk hosted by NAMI. Please join us on May 30, 2020 at a location of your choice. It is not too late to register or submit donations. Since SVC-CAMFT is turning 50 this year, we are aiming to have 50 registered walkers on our team. Feel free to invite your family, friends and colleagues to join the fun. SVC-CAMFT is hosting our first virtual workshop on Saturday, May 23, 2020. We are fortunate to have Drs. Paul and Nancy Aikins present Emotional Focused Couples Therapy from 10-12pm. As a token of appreciation, SVC-CAMFT is providing this workshop free to our members. Lastly, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge our Gold Sponsor for the year, Stucki Law Firm. We are grateful for the continual support.
Dustin Stucki, J.D., LMFT.'s goal is to provide a path of hope in the chaos of family conflict. Using skills as both a Family Law Attorney and Marriage and Family Therapist, he is proud to help make divorce and custody issues less traumatic for couples, parents, and especially children.
In gratitude, Linita Morris, LMFT SVC-CAMFT President

Workshop Information: This presentation will describe the EFT Stages and Steps that guide couples through three change events and lead to more connection and secure bonding. We will teach participants how, in Stage One, EFT helps couples identify their negative interactional patterns that keep couples disconnected and in distress. Furthermore, we will introduce the EFT “Tango” which describes how to help couples engage in new ways -- undoing their reactivity and facilitating more security. We will then describe Stage Two, which will show how EFT takes couples to even deeper levels of healing. EFT interventions, present process, and a systemic perspective (characterized by a Rogerian humanistic experiential orientation) will be demonstrated. Privileging emotion through an attachment perspective is the key to EFT and will be illustrated through the presentation. We will also briefly include how this understanding is used effectively with individuals and families. "In terms of outcome and process-of-change studies, EFT, more than any other approach, exemplifies the highest or ideal level of empirical validation as laid out by the American Psychological Association for couple and family therapy (Sexton et al., 2011)."
